These were the exact words running through my head as I pressed “confirm” on the resignation button in late Oct 2021.
A 9 year finance career, reset to NIL with a click. It was time to experiment with my life. It was exciting, but also terrifying. I had zero clue what I was doing.
“Here goes nothing...”
Yolo to the 75 of you!
That’s a much higher number for the inaugural edition of my digital postcard than I would’ve ever imagined 😅
I expected to send this to folks at home and some friends I’d nagged to join. So if you don’t fall into either category, cheers! Regardless, I’m grateful for each of you being here (considering you opened this email).
So, a quick update on what I’ve been up to since:
My Twitter account crossed 1,000 online friends on 27 March ‘22. Feels surreal! I still don’t know what I’m doing there, lol. That should tell you everything about taking your shot, instead of “planning” stuff to death.
I’ve done two writing courses from the top digital writers in the world. Led me to set up my website, publish 9 long-ish essays, along with some 40 shorter ones, and start this newsletter. Holy crap!
Also, the fact that I now have a website is odd as hell. Damn you, imposter syndrome, you persistent pain in my ass.
I made around $800 - what?! First ever income outside my salary *self pat on the back*
Got three unsolicited, inbound offers to help with content creation - double what!?
Something I wrote
I’m proud of this short essay I published recently (customary self horn-tooting). It captures the essence of my journey from being a burnt-out, depressed bugger to doing this.
It’s about the concept that everything worth pursuing in life is behind a “paywall”. Much like your favorite trashy digital magazine subscriptions. There is a price to be paid for a meaningful life, and most people aren’t willing to pay up.
Let me know what you think of it. More so if you disagree - I would love to chat with you specifically.
Yes, I’m odd like that - you’ll get used to it.
Chuckle worthy quote
“It was easier for Hitler to start World War II than it was for him to face a blank square of canvas.” - Steven Pressfield, The War of Art
It’s funny how the hardest thing to do in life is dealing with yourself.
Stupid monkey mind.
Till the next time (which is next week)
This brings us to the close of the first edition. Phew!
It’s been some trip and we’re just getting started. I choose to focus on the abundance in life, amidst all the chaos and uncertainty. Because why not?
I’ll leave you with a quote close to my heart:
“We have two lives, and the second begins when we realize we only have one” - Confucius
Which one are you living?
Till next time,
Adi
PS: the format, content, literally everything in this digital postcard will evolve with subsequent editions. I focus on shipping over perfection, otherwise I wouldn’t get anything done! Suggestions are always welcome. Stating the obvious, but I love banter. So hit that reply button or book a call if you want to chat!
Adi! What a brilliant first edition. Light, punchy, funny. You had all the elements. Excited to continue reading! To the moon man!
Coming out the gates blazin! Excellent first newsletter Adi. Strapped in for the ride
